Stamps Landing Yacht Club (SLYC) was founded in 1989 by a number of boat owners based at Heather Civic Marina, and with the assistance of Stamps Landing Pub (now the Wicklow). Many original members were formerly members of the Jib Set. Over the years our membership has evolved to include members who keep their boats at Burrard Bridge Marina, Spruce Marina, and even as far afield as the Sunshine Coast and the Gulf Islands. Actually, no. Some of our members […]
SNSYC was founded in 1981 by a group of individuals interested in boating. From the outset it was designed to be an affordable and accessible club serving both the powerboat and sail boat communities. Nowadays, the club has about 800 members and a very active and evolving Junior Program. The distinctive and well-appointed clubhouse, converted from an old family home, is located on the west shore of Tsehum Harbour in a park-like setting of lawns, gardens, and trees. The club […]
In 1975, a small group of sailing enthusiasts whose boats were moored at Schooner Cove formed a loose association to race informally and to cruise together. They called themselves the Schooner Cove United Mariners, which easily contracted to SCUM, an acronym in which its members took a sort of perverse satisfaction. The founding members of SCUM were a mixed lot, some living locally or in Port Alberni. Many of the initial members are still in the Club today. Inevitably the […]
Our history reaches back into the maritime traditions of an earlier century. The Club was granted the privilege by Whitehall of using the badge from the HMS Ganges, a Royal Navy ship of the line sailing local waters during the late 1850’s. The elephant from this badge has been adopted for the Club burgee. From its beginnings in 1969 as a racing dinghy association, the Club has grown to embrace a range of boating activities, with a continued emphasis on […]

The Vancouver Yacht Club was formed in 1903, seventeen years after Vancouver was incorporated. The Club had as its first headquarters a small rented house at the foot of Thurlow Street in coal Harbour and proudly counted eighteen yachts in its fleet! The first elected commodore was Walter E. Graveley, a real estate dealer whose racing credits included sailing on the Countess of Dufferin, the 1876 challenger for the Americas Cup. The Club soon built a two-storey floating clubhouse on […]
The Royal City Yacht Club was founded October 22, 1941 with the filing of the formal Bylaws and registration as a non-profit society. The membership met at their clubhouse on Dyke Road, New Westminster on the South Arm of the Fraser River in what is now called the Royal City Marina, for 60 years! During the height of the Second World War the club remained inactive, reconvening in 1946. Eventually the clubhouse was sold and rented back to RCYC in […]
The North Okanagan Sailing Association (NOSA) was formed in 1980 on land owned by the Okanagan Landing Association. The North Okanagan Sailing Association occupies a historic site at Paddlewheel park. It was on this very spot, close to 100 years ago, that Sternwheelers such as the Sicamous and Aberdeen were built and launched. A rail link with the City of Vernon was built with the train running right out to the dock. The old house can still be seen along […]

The Half Moon Bay Yacht Club was established in 1978 by a small group of Coastsiders with a shared interest in sailing. The group used the harbormaster’s storage room as its first facility. From there, it grew into a true yacht club that organized racing, trained new members, facilitated access to sailing for those without boats, explored kayaking, hosted visiting racers and cruisers, and enjoyed a rich social calendar. Later, the club was able to purchase its first clubhouse from […]

The club became famous for its moonlit parties, regattas, and cruising events. The club encouraged family participation from the very beginning. The first clubhouse was designed and built […]

The above verbatim quotation from the preamble and first article of the Club’s charter indicates the high hopes of the five organizers (and concurrently the first Board of Directors, first slate of officers, and at the time, the entire Membership) of the new club dedicated “to promote and encourage, as its primary function and purpose, an interest in amateur yachting in all its phases…” The presumptuousness (or vision) of this founding group is further indicated by the choice of the […]

Located on the island in Dana Point Harbor, we recently completed a major renovation of our clubhouse. We’ve completely rebuilt our kitchen, which serves a fantastic lunch and dinner Thursday through Monday. The bar has views of beautiful ocean sunsets in one direction, and the harbor in the other. For those who want to keep up […]
The history of the Dana Point Yacht Club parallels the growth of South Orange County and the development of the Dana Point Harbor. The yacht club was organized in July 1952 by twenty-five charter members with a common interest in boating. The goal was to provide facilities for open water boat launching within the protection of the Dana Point cove. Malcolm Pierce became the first Commodore. Membership was limited to 100 members and meetings were held in a clubhouse located […]
