“I’ve been sailing at the Bedford Basin Yacht Club since I was 10 years old. I’ve come up through the program and have raced at BBYC. I race 420’s and J/24s, and last year I did a few races with some of the other coaches on the J/24. I have been down to Shelbourne for the Albacore Nationals, and had fun sailing those boats! I volunteered coaching for a year, and this will be my second year as a coach […]
The Terra Nova Yacht Club traces its roots to the Bowring Sailing Club established in the early 1960s by the Bowring family for their employees, family, and friends. In 1963 the Bowring Sailing Club acquired the property that currently houses the TNYC clubhouse in Holyrood to be used as a base for Snipe-class races. By the late 1960s the Bowring Sailing Club at Holyrood had disbanded as its members moved from sailing Snipes to acquiring larger boats, perhaps teaching us […]

It pretty much started in my garage, I was building a sail boat when Dick Quinton dropped by and mentioned that there were a few guys that were thinking of starting a yacht club at the beach. He inquired as to the boat I was building, which was an Enterprise. The long and short of it was that Kildonan canoe were starting to build Enterprises hence that made the decision easy there were seven including mine. We built the little […]
A yacht club is formed by a group of people with a common interest in using boats to get away from land and enjoy cruising local and distant waters, racing for the thrill of personal combat against other sailors and the elements, or just messing about on boats. In the children’s classic “The Wind in the Willows”, it is described thus: “There is nothing – absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats…or with […]

Around 1970 the Club’s name was changed to the “Victoria Cruising Club”. The Victoria Cruising Club maintains a maximum of 75 members plus 8 Associate members and 7 Honorary members. Dyke access is conditional on the SWS holding liability insurance to indemnify the Crown and District of Squamish. Without this indemnification access would be terminated. The Society employs up to three […]
When Dave and I moved to Gabriola in 1975, we had been members of Nanaimo Yacht Club for many years and had taken an active part in sailboat racing. Soon after our arrival, Dave was working at Silva Bay Shipyard, then owned and operated by Judy and Arne Bentzen. Not much was happening on the water at that time, so we initiated a “Once Around the Flat Tops” race. This was open to any boat (including a canoe with sail) […]

The distinctive and well-appointed clubhouse, converted from an old family home, is located on the west shore of Tsehum Harbour in a park-like setting of lawns, gardens, and trees. The club […]
Our history reaches back into the maritime traditions of an earlier century. The Club was granted the privilege by Whitehall of using the badge from the HMS Ganges, a Royal Navy ship of the line sailing local waters during the late 1850’s. The elephant from this badge has been adopted for the Club burgee. From its beginnings in 1969 as a racing dinghy association, the Club has grown to embrace a range of boating activities, with a continued emphasis on […]

The Half Moon Bay Yacht Club was established in 1978 by a small group of Coastsiders with a shared interest in sailing. The group used the harbormaster’s storage room as its first facility. From there, it grew into a true yacht club that organized racing, trained new members, facilitated access to sailing for those without boats, explored kayaking, hosted visiting racers and cruisers, and enjoyed a rich social calendar. Later, the club was able to purchase its first clubhouse from […]
