The Sachem’s Head Yacht Club is located on the Connecticut shore of Long Island Sound, in Guilford, Connecticut. The clubhouse near the Thimble Islands, serves an active racing fleet and is a summer base for families and juniors involved in sailing, swimming and tennis. The club was founded in 1896.
New Haven Yacht Club was established in 1882, making it one of the oldest chartered yacht clubs in the country. During its heyday in the earlier part of this century the NHYC was host to many nationally renowned yachting squadrons including the New York Yacht Club during its annual tri-cornered regatta on Long Island Sound. The first meeting of HCYC, of which there is any record, was called an organizational meeting and was held at the Lake Breeze Tavern in Old Lyme on October 19, 1946. The Lake Breeze Tavern was located in Haines Park on Rogers Lake and subsequently burned to the ground.
