The Middle Harbour Amateur Sailing Club has raced centreboard dinghies from its premises at The Spit for over 50 years. Prior to 1997, the six founding boats of BHYC were on mooringsin the cove about 200 yards west of where the Marina is now located.On July 6th, 1997 Dana and Mary Hunter opened Barrachois Marina.In subsequent years the Club has taken on building and renovating our gazebo/clubhouse,the addition of four decks which completely surround the gazebo andproviding patio furniture as well as propane barbecues for use by Yacht Club Members.
The Terra Nova Yacht Club traces its roots to the Bowring Sailing Club established in the early 1960s by the Bowring family for their employees, family, and friends.
