Our history reaches back into the maritime traditions of an earlier century. The Club was granted the privilege by Whitehall of using the badge from the HMS Ganges, a Royal Navy ship of the line sailing local waters during the late 1850’s. The elephant from this badge has been adopted for the Club burgee. From its beginnings in 1969 as a racing dinghy association, the Club has grown to embrace a range of boating activities, with a continued emphasis on […]

The North Okanagan Sailing Association (NOSA) was formed in 1980 on land owned by the Okanagan Landing Association. The North Okanagan Sailing Association occupies a historic site at Paddlewheel park. It was on this very spot, close to 100 years ago, that Sternwheelers such as the Sicamous and Aberdeen were built and launched. A rail link with the City of Vernon was built with the train running right out to the dock. The old house can still be seen along […]

Founded in 1946, the Elkhorn Yacht Club is one of the best kept secrets on the Pacific Coast. The club, with its beautiful, secluded setting in Moss Landing’s north harbor channel, is an ideal location for catching a stunning sunset, or any social function. Our yacht club extends reciprocal membership privileges to other recognized yacht clubs all over the world, offering traveling sailors and cruisers the opportunity to tie up at our guest dock, enjoy a hot shower, a meal […]

On a typical summer weekend, lots of families are on the island. Currently, our members have power boats. Many different boat manufacturers are represented by our members. Hatteras, Chris Craft, Sea Ray, Bayliner and Viking, to name a few. Boat types include everything from […]
The SCYA Midwinter Regatta’s history is packed with legendary sailors and their boats from the early days to the present. In 1928, SCYA and the LA Junior Chamber of Commerce teamed up to sponsor the first Midwinters which was promoted as an example of the sports “paradise” that Southern California offered in the winter. As hoped, the event attracted boats from the Great Lakes, Atlantic Coast and the rest of the Pacific Coast, and some of the best known yachtsmen […]
Coronado Yacht Club was founded initially in 1913, but was short lived due to World War I. The second beginning took place April 23, 1932, when six Coronado yachtsmen leased a wing of the Hotel del Coronado Boat House and invited new members to join (dues for $10.00 a year). Material for building slips was obtained on credit, and soon many of the 200 new members were working side by side on docks and slips for the Club. The first […]
The Convair Sailing Club is a unique organization in the world of sailing clubs. First: it is not a commercial business. It is a group of folks banded together to enjoy sailing and “messing about in boats”. It is wholly owned by the members themselves and has no paid employees or officers. Costs of the Club are covered by an annual registration fee and a very small boat use fee, apportioned as the boats are used. Originally, the club was […]
If you are looking to re-ignite those magical feelings that got us all into boating and cruising, the members of Caliente Isle Yacht Club (CIYC) invite you to cruise with us! Founded in 1932 Cabrillo Beach Yacht Club was established amid the enthusiasm for small boat racing sparked by the 1932 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It was nurtured by such individuals as D.C. Shumway of the Los Angeles Recreation Department and Max Miller, our first Commodore. They wanted to create a club that maintained a low cost through the cooperative efforts of the membership. This spirit of enthusiasm and cooperation has been a hallmark of CBYC throughout the ensuing years. […]

On a rainy afternoon in the Fall of 1989 several shore-bound sailors were trading sea stories in Rush Hilborn’s dockside garage and the possibility of forming a yacht club surfaced. The idea of having a club composed of those who all had their boats in the Balboa Yacht Basin wasn’t new to the marina, but having a group who were willing to put it together was the previously missing element. There were lots of reasons for giving up the idea: […]
The North Sea Yacht Club was built up in the winter of 1946 – 1947 by a gathering of youthful aficionados cruising Snipes and Papillons. The then Lord Mayor of Ostend, Henri Serruys, put the Montgomery dock at the transfer of the Club and with the Commodore Georges Timmermans DSC in charge, this incredible yacht Club was conceived. The main Dragons showed up at the Club in the 50’s and from that point forward the Dragon armada has been the […]
